Canada's Patriot Act?

I was scrolling through a webpage today and found out about a bill that looks a little too much like our own patriot act being rushed through Canadian Parliament. The general premise is that the natural health remedies industry is being deemed unsafe. It is my impression that under this new bill the Canadian government can: · Enter private property without a warrant · Take your property… Continue

Eco Daredevil Challenge

For anyone who does not know Wallace J. Nichols, he's a multi-disciplinary scientist, specifically an oceanographer and sea turtle freak. He spoke last year at Bioneers, it was likely my favorite plenary. In his earth day blog he posts his admiration for Evil Knievel, not only as a daredevil but as an eco daredevil. I've posted his blog below. ecodaredevil movemvent

Regarding B-corps vs. common-good corporations, my understanding is that in a common good corp, the directors are required to hold the community's interests above all others, including the shareholders. The return on equity for shareholders is also capped, and excess returns go toward the common good.

From what I can read in the B-Corp website, directors hold up their shareholder's interests first (just as in a c-corp), but legally they must also consider the community in which they operate. That sounds weaker than the common-good corporation principles to me, but what do I know?

More on this...I like it! - Mark

Hey Gingeroo, I can't tell how cutting edge this law conference is going to be, and at $895 a seat, I'm not likely to find out!

Are you familiar with the Democracy School folks at www.celdf.org? They are working on giving nature all the rights of corporations, and they wrote an ordinance against corporate chemical bodily trespass that is also very good. Take that, Monsanto!

Hey, Ginger...nice getting to know you at BALLE, and thanks for the photo! That's me in my role as diplomat, explaining to the UBS Warburg representative that I would prefer using local banks to finance energy projects. He took it well!

Hi Ginger,
Wow, somehow I missed your comment to me from a few weeks ago...I have a friend I meet for lunch regularly and her favorite place is Laurey's - I'll go say hi to your aunt one of these days. And come visit us in Asheville one of these days!
Peace,
Dorisse

glad you liked the photo
its one of the places on my list that i still want to go back and see in OZ. i've spent months there- tramping from Cairns/Daintree on down to Sydney. Even drove a caravan from Briz to Cairns just for fun (and to count 'Roos). Did you like living there? I'm hoping to build my dream Green retirement home in QLD some day... *sigh*

Thanks for the support! "The Botany of Desire" actually came up during my research. I have yet to read...so thank you for the reminder to do so!

All the best to you, and may 2008 bring all that you desire and much much more!

Until Next Time,
