Bioneers Community

Practical solutions for people + planet

Did you congregate in your community with other Bioneers? Were you in San Rafael, CA at the big tent?

This is the place to give feedback and share knowledge.

It's also a spot to post ideas and suggestions for next year. I, for one, would love to hear your thoughts.

Learning to use this medium... To those of you following the conversation from here, Liz Cunningham (Bioneers outpost in SF staffer) and Sami have connected via "comments" on each other's home pages and are working this out! That "most recent activity" bar to the left of the main page turns out to be a key feature in following fast-moving Bioneers action!

Given the several thousand people who attended at least part of the 2007 Conference, there is so far a small number of people who've discovered and chosen to participate in the community that Chantal has done such a great job of implementing.

I'd suggest that for 2008, Chantal be given a 20-minute slot in the plenaries to demonstrate the Web community, and that over the next year we work on some good demonstrations of how it can be used for collaboration to support new or existing projects.

Just an idea at this point.

Cliff, I think that is an excellent idea.

Not only would it be an important presentation, but it presents a focusing challenge to this group of initial participants: What CAN web community do for collaboration or projects?

The most active and successful Web communities I've know have had either very general purposes, where members find a wide range of things to talk about - making the community primarily a social hangout and online conversation venue, OR they have been very focused on a shared passionate interest.

I'm sure many Bioneers would find a lot of common ground in values and viewpoints about many aspects of life. I didn't have any trouble striking up conversations with people in the lunch line or during breaks at the conference.

But I'm also sure that there are Bioneers who are focused on specific issues covered at the conference, who would benefit by having an online meeting place where they could coordinate a project and collaborate over long distance.

My main interest is in sustainability and adaptation to climate change. I'd like to help different localities share ideas through the Web about how to prepare for these changes at the lifestyle level. Others may want to follow a theme represented in the plenaries - green jobs, urban rejuvenation, social justice, cleaning up the ocean, creative fundraising for causes, support for war veterans. Or maybe a "meta" activity having to do with planning for the next Bioneers conference. Maybe plan a session for next year's generation of Bioneers.org members.

How does one find Bioneers attendees in one's own geographical area?
