Practical solutions for people + planet

The current ongoing atrocities and violence against the Tibetan monks makes me want to take a stance for peace and human rights. The question is should we boycott the Olympics in China or impose sanctions against them?

Journalists are being turned away or detained for trying to investigate things that are currently happening to the Tibetan monks while they protest against Chinese rule. We are not receiving accurate news of the violence and deaths taking place against them. I do believe that we should take a stance for peace and human rights by protesting in some way, shape or form.

Boycotting can be an effective message, but my guess is that it would not improve the convince the Chinese to be more open to the Tibetan culture. As the Dalai Lama pointed out during his recent trip to Seattle, there is some good coming from the Chinese in Tibet....more and more of them are converting to Tibetan Buddhism.

I think the Chinese know that the west doesn't approve of the imposition of Chinese culture on Tibet, so I'm not sure how boycotting moves them close to bridging the divide they have with Tibet. On the other hand, I'm not an expert on Chinese culture so I welcome other points of view.

What is needed is something that would bring the cultures together, help them see each other's perspective.
