Don't get me going on this one. I'm not about to be homeless, or jobless, (no criticism of those who are). I pay my bills, save, pay cash most of the time, have a mortgage than can be supported on a part time salary if needs be, owe nothing to the...

It's good to see these actions covered in the major press. It is also good to know that many are "walking their talk".

About Me:
I'm the Youth & Conference Project Manager at Bioneers. My friends would describe me as a networker socialite. I love being around people, meeting new people, and finding common connections through like-minded interests. I love anything that involves being outside and active- hiking, biking, telemark skiing, running, laying in the grass, ultimate frisbee, star gazing, climbing, creek walkin'...the list goes on. I love to go out and see live music, but equally love my down time in good conversation or reading a good book. I'm an environmentalist at heart though you should know that I'm not a hippie. I am passionate about my work and love connecting with other inspiring people.

AND... I love my work at Bioneers!!

Weatherization and the Stimulus- any insight?

I just had an interesting conversation with an unemployed carpenter/weatherization specialist who got laid off 3 weeks ago, and as of yesterday is "houseless"- he doesn't want to say he's "homeless" cause he is more hopeful than that. He is not anticipating any work until May 15th at the earliest. There was about $500 million in stimulus money offered to California for weatherization improvements with 16 people allocating those funds. I know that there are amazing organizations like Green for Al… Continue

Time Magazine covers Powershift!

Finally, a mainstream media outlet presents a GREAT article on the true story of Powershift and it's significance. It comments on the diversity of the Powershift attendees and panelists and how they represent the reality of what is in office now. Did you know that three of the four top White House players in Environmental affairs are "non-white"? The article is right on when they talk about how it's not the words "global warming" catching our ear and eye, but rather the words "climate justice" t… Continue

I said Oooooo, it's hot in here... there must be some carbon in the atmosphere!

As many of you know, I had the privilege of attending the LARGEST youth gathering on climate change in HISTORY! It was four days of back to back workshops, speakers, networking, and outlets of inspiration. I got to meet so many wonderful young people inspired to get involved in their campus and work together to push for strong climate policy for our nation. There are many stories and videos available to check out- so head to www.powershift09.org to see w… Continue

What to do if you can't make it to Powershift...

Some people have been asking me how they can get involved if they can't make it to Powershift next week, and I recently found a blog post in The Nation that highlights Energy Action's suggestions to help!

From the Nation post:
1. Recruit: Are there young people in your life (or part of your organization) that could be inspired b… Continue

Hello Liz,
Can you help me? I'm considering applying for a commercial lending job at 'NEWResourceBank' of SanFrancisco (at 405 Howard Str). Its focus is on lending/supporting new green/sustainable businesses. Do you, or anyone within the Bay Area Bioneers, know much about this bank?
Tks for your consideration. ~ Greg Davidson /Northland Bioneers

Hi Liz,

I am an environmental educator in New Hampshire and I just read the book Ecological Literacy from the Bioneers Series, and I found the book to be quite inspiring and very much in line with my personal goals and ideals.

I am writing to you because I would love to connect with other young people who have similar interests and are working on projects that could use the help of an enthusiastic recent college graduate.

After I finish my current job in May I am considering spending time in California, and I’ve been impressed with all of the great projects I’ve read about that are happening in the Bay Area.

I am mainly interested in working with elementary/middle school students to help connect them with nature, particularly through school garden projects or watershed education. I would greatly appreciate it if you could point me towards people or organizations working on these topics that might be able to take on a new person. I am planning a trip to California in the near future and would love to get some ideas of people/places worth visiting.

Thanks so much,

Jake Barnett

Hey Liz~

I am the US Youth Director of an initiative of the Art of Living Foundation called Mission Green Earth in partnership with UNEP and UN Millenium Campaign. This is our commitment to plant 100 million trees and have 100 million people stand up and take the Millenium development goals oath on either Oct 17th, 18th or 19th, 2008. WWW.STANDUPTAKEACTION.ORG

I would like to connect with you to see if you can help get Bioneers participation and support in this bottom up initiative across over 150 countries - a theme akin to BIONEERS.

You can read more about it on the blog post I just made.

I'll be going to Bioneers in Boulder, CO and went for years back in Bloomington, IN. Side note: You might know my friend Robin Tala who was a youth delegate to Bioneers a few years ago.

Look forward to speaking with you!

Liz,
the "Meet the Bioneers" video is posted here because of its 12 minute length. Youtube will not accept anything longer than 10 minutes. I have tried twice and it just will not work.
You can get the embed code by going to the video and below the video window there is a list of options one of which is "get embed code".
Hope that helps, sorry I didn't see your comment sooner, I'm not on this site every day.

Hi Liz.
I'm Priscila & Clevin's Mom from Houston Texas. They started a Bioneers club at their School. We all love the local and the national Bioneers conference. We all have had great time learning and sharing experiences from each other at the last conference. This year is going to be an awesome conference here. We started to plan ahead and hope that we can bring great minds together. I liked this window to be in touch with you and learning from your experiences. Blessings,
Cleusa
