Systems Thinking

It didn't seem like there was a group focused on system level solutions yet so her it is.

There's a natural tendency to focus on one sector at a time when thinking about solutions such as just energy or food or transportation or waste. It's a good thing to start a CSA, install solar panels and recycle but what can we do to change the systems that we use to obtain our food, water, energy, building materials and handle our waste in a more integrated way. What are the building blocks of that totally integrated system when reverse engineered and how can we focus on getting the primary framework of such systems implemented in our communities today. Does it break down to a set of must haves? Are there common threads that we can weave to set the table for change?

Please jump in and share some of your thoughts, ideas, links and experience on this one, we all need to know and get them implemented.

Well hello all, This is a good question and great subject. I've been working in my own way for the last 15 years trying to answer it. I have my own thoughts about the next step. Please visit the website I've dedicated to the subject.

Thank you

This seems like an interesting group. I am a ceramic engineer with a Master's in Masonry Science. I approach architecture from the perspective of design science. I'm wondering if documents can be posted here? I'd pay 20 cents! A pair o' dime shift!

I run a sustainability non-profit organization on Kaua`i and we are currently in the process of moving our island of 65k towards self-sufficiency. We import 90% of our energy (primarily diesel) and 85% of our food, paying more for electricity then anywhere in the nation ($.49/kwh). We also have the renewable energy sources (solar, wind, hydro, wave) and land for food production but an over dependence on tourism as our main industry has taken our focus and resources away from our own basic needs and economic diversity. We are truly an experiment in implementation of potential systems within an actual "island" test environment.

Hello,
Of all the groups in Bioneers Community, this is the one that really caught my interest. I look forward to learning more and contributing what I can. I work for the Biomimicry Guild and mimicking how ecosystems function is one of my main interests.
