Greetings,
A friend told me about the Transition Towns movement in the U.K., and I've felt very inspired by their whimsical, creative approach to the issues of peak oil and climate change. I've had some training in ecopsychology, realizing that all the bad news about the environment isn't very effective in motivating people to change. I like the fact that the Transition movement applies the cycles of change from addiction treatment to our addiction to consumption. They put forth the view that life beyond cheap oil could be richer and more connected, if we plan for it creatively.
Got together with some friends here in Ann Arbor and we're bringing Michael Brownlee and Lynette Hanthorn from Transition Boulder County at the end of this month for a two-day training on how to bringing Transition to our local communities. Check it out! http://tinyurl.com/mit4t
Thats fantastic. We recently had a training with them in January 17/18th and they are very good. Precise, calm, humorous, deep... using presentations as well as break out groups and certain exercises via Joanna Macy.
Good luck; bring your friends and perhaps even buy some of those houses in Detroit for $7,000 and begin the transitioning process!!
