Burmese Cyclone, EarthRights International and What We Can Do

Do coal-fired plants contribute to autism?

A new study in Texas reports a higher incidence of autism among children living closer to a source of mercury pollution. The main emitter of mercury in this country? Coal-fired power plants, which account for a third of mercury emissions. While scientists are still a long way from proving (if ever) a direct link, the new study adds further support to a possible connection between autism and mercury, a known neurotoxin.
